Maui, Hawaii is a 35 minute flight to the south of Oahu and has a little of everything that Hawaii has to offer - great beaches, vibrant tropical rainforest and the contrasting deserts and pastoral landscape of the interior. Maui accommodation boasts the second highest concentration after Waikiki Beach, attracting wealthy golfers, romantic couples and families as well as being the preferred destination for condominium owners who return each year to escape the cold winters of mainland America.

The dry western side of the island has by far the better weather, lovely beaches and assess to most of the islands attractions. The West Coast, from Lahaina to Kapalua has long sweeping beaches and small coves as well as championship golf courses on with lots of luxury resorts and hotels and plenty of beach activities. The focus of the region is the historical whaling town of Old Lahaina with its boutique shops, world-renowned art galleries and fine restaurants. The area known as the South Coast from Kihei to Wailea actually faces west and its protected sandy beaches are excellent for swimming and families. Kihei has the highest concentration of accommodation and restaurants on the island with Wailua further south being the upmarket location with grander international resorts. The North Coast towns and upcountry farming region on the slopes of Mt. Haleakala are the least developped for tourism and mostly home of locals - here there are several quiet bed and breakfast homes with stunning views from the expensive to budget. The rainforested East Coast of Maui has dramatic scenery along a narrow winding road. This is the wet side of the island where sights are plentiful but accommodation limited to the quaint seaside town of Hana and its hillside suburbs.
